The mission of Houston/Trinity Counties Children’s Advocacy Center, Inc. (Kalin’s Center), established in 2001, is to quickly and professionally respond to and meet the needs of child victims, ages 0-18, of assault, abuse, or neglect and to provide loving comfort and helpful therapy services to the children and their non-offending family members during recovery and rehabilitation.

| A forensic interview is a conversation that allows children to talk about their experience of abuse, neglect and/or violent crime. The interview is conducted by a Kalin’s Center staff member who is trained to gather information in a developmentally-sensitive and non-leading manner. These staff members try to make each child feel comfortable enough to express themselves freely. | Family advocates provide crisis intervention and emotional support to non-offending family members and caregivers. Family advocates provide resources and referrals throughout the investigation, and after, for as long as each family needs. | Kalin’s Center contracts with Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapists whose services are critical to helping children cope and heal from their abuse. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a proven therapy that allows children to process the trauma they have experienced. | Kalin’s Center contracts with medical professionals who are trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of child abuse. The evaluation is available for any children when there are allegations or concerns of abuse. The evaluation helps a child know that their body is okay and may be part of the journey of hope and healing. |
