The Kalin’s Center is a non-profit organization that started in 2001. At the Kalin’s Center we provide a safe and child-friendly environment for abused children to tell their story.
We provide services to child victims up to the age of 18 years for: sexual, emotional, and physical abuse as well as child neglect and child witnesses of crimes and their non-offending family members. According to the Darkness 2 Light Child Abuse Prevention and Non-Profit Organization, “Experts estimate that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before their 18th birthdays. This means that in any classroom or neighborhood full of children, there are children who are silently bearing the burden of sexual abuse.”
As to the statistics of our local area, according to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services 2009 Data Book – there were 181 cases of abuse reported to Child Protective Services in Houston County and 162 cases reported in Trinity County. CPS is just one of the many partner agencies we work with directly. These statistics show that child abuse is a relevant and current problem in Houston and Trinity Counties.
This corporation is not organized for profit, but solely to develop funds to provide benefits and services to persons eighteen (18) years of age or younger and their families in recovering from victimization and traumatic criminal acts.
No part of the net earnings of The Houston/Trinity Counties Children’s Advocacy Center, Inc. shall inure to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual, no substantial part of the activities of this corporation shall carry on propaganda or otherwise attempt to influence legislation except as provided in Title 26, Section 501(h) of the United States Internal Revenue Code, nor shall this Corporation participate in or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of, or in position to, any candidate for public office.
